Abundance Farm
About Us
We are a family of 6 (so far) and although we aren't perfect, we love each other! My husband Jan (pronounced 'yawn') and I met online (he was from South Africa but I'm a Canadian girl) and fell in love. We started our journey together in Brantford, Ontario and moved to Ottawa for a year. We later visited PEI and decided that Montague was where we wanted to settle and raise our growing family. I ran 2 home businesses in Ontario, family & portrait photography and bookkeeping. Being an entrepreneur comes easily for me and it allows me to be a stay-at-home wife and mom.
I attribute my love of flowers to my grandfather Calvin. He was always getting me to help with the flowerbeds in the summertime and taught me many little gardening tricks along the way. For fun, he would take my sister and I to nurseries in the springtime and spend hours perusing and chatting about plants. When I was young, I did not appreciate being 'dragged' to all the nurseries but now, I am so grateful for his determination to instill a love of nature in me. Erin Benzakien of Floret Farms inspired me to do what I love for a living. Her little 2-acre farm in Washington is breathtakingly beautiful and gave me hope that small-scale farming could be fun and profitable.
I started our flower farm in Montague by growing gladioli. The response from the locals was so positive and overwhelming that I decided to take the plunge and add over 20 new varieties the following year. The rest is history. I am so grateful that I get to do what I love and be with my family in the process. I hope that my children will catch the gardening bug from me and love flowers (and the business aspect) as much as I do or even more.
I also enjoy photography (check out my blog!), writing, reading, hunting down a bargain (especially antiques), public speaking (motivational), and spending quality time with my family. I'm grateful every day to God for the blessings that started with small seeds and a big dream.
